Center for Sustainable Energy Innovations (CSEI)

The Center for Sustainable Energy Innovation (CSEI) is committed to pioneering advancements in renewable energy technologies, focusing on wind turbines, hydro and wave energy, and solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. Our mission is to spearhead cutting-edge research and practical implementations that contribute to a sustainable and energy-efficient future.

Exploration area

Research subjects

At CSEI, we believe that innovation in renewable energy technologies is essential to tackling the global energy challenges of the 21st century. By focusing on wind, hydro, wave, and solar energy, we strive to provide sustainable solutions that are environmentally friendly and economically feasible. Our multidisciplinary approach, cutting-edge facilities, and unwavering commitment to excellence position CSEI as a leader in the sustainable energy sector.

We are also leveraging solar PV technology as the primary energy source for solar-powered UAVs. These UAVs are developed as a solution for marine resource monitoring, providing an efficient and sustainable method for overseeing ocean resources.

Fluid dynamics and wind turbine technology

In wind turbine technology, we are dedicated to developing innovative blade designs optimized for low wind speed regions, conducting in-depth aerodynamic and aeroelastic performance analyses of large-scale wind turbines, and performing comprehensive feasibility studies and precise wind energy potential assessments to identify optimal installation sites. In hydro and wave energy, our team concentrates on exploring and evaluating the vast potential of these natural resources, aiming to diversify and maximize renewable energy sources.

Photovoltaics for sustainable communities

we focus on solar energy by practically deploying solar PV systems in agriculture and irrigation. Our goal is to enhance agricultural productivity, improve irrigation practices, and promote sustainable farming, thereby reducing reliance on traditional energy sources and improving food security.

Meet the group leader:

M. N. Setiawan, MSc

Setiawan was born in Semarang, Indonesia. He pursued a Mechanical Engineering degree in Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Indonesia, graduating in 2014. He then continued his study in the University of Manchester, UK, and received his MSc in Aerospace Engineering in 2017. He then shortly joined Surya University and Universitas Multimedia Nusantara as a lecturer in the physics field, receiving the best lecturer award as voted by the students. In 2020, he joined the Renewable Energy Engineering department in Universitas Prasetiya Mulya.

Setiawan pioneered the CSEI group in 2024 and has been working on his portfolio. His role in the CSEI aims to bridge the research gap and opportunities in the field of the applications of sustabinable energy research in flight-related applications. His research interets and portfolio includes the development of algorithm in UAV control system and fluid-dynamics related optimizations.
